An Overview of Jaisalmer :
Jaisalmer, the desert city of Rajasthan forces its tourist to think about the desert sand, carved havelis, golden fort, magnificent palaces which provide a plenty of visual pleasure. Founded by Rao Jaiswal in 1156 AD, it is one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in Rajasthan. Climate of Jaisalmer :
Jaisalmer has a typical desert type climate with high temperature difference with hot days and cool nights. During summer season(March-September) the average maximum temperature is recorded around 41 degrees C and in winters especially between the months of November and March it is around 23.6 degrees C. But the night temperature during winter days is approximately around 5 degrees C and can fall below 0 degrees C. The city receives a very low average annual rainfall of only 15 cm.
Tourist Attractions of Jaisalmer : » The Fort - Situated on the top of the Trikuta(Triangle) Hill, this magnificent fort complex was built by Rawal Jaiswal and one of the most beautiful landmark of the country. It is also known as the golden fort and can be approached through four massive gates. Inside the fort is a complex of seven Jain temples built in the 15th and 16th centuries. The Parshvanath Temple is the most impressive one. The other major monuments in the fort is the Rajmahal, the erstwhile royal residence, which is now converted into the Jaisalmer Fort Palace Museum and a heritage centre.
» Havelis - The 19th century built havelis are some of the most beautiful sites to visit in the golden city of Jaisalmer. Some of the well known havelis are the Patwon Ki Haveli, Salim Sing ki Haveli, Nathmalji ki Havali and all are exquisitely carved and painted
Getting to Jaisalmer : » By Air - The city has an airport which is well connected to Delhi, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur by three weekly flights.
» By Rail - Jaisalmer station is well connected to Delhi, Agra, Mumbai and the state capital Jaipur by regular train services.
» By Road - A well maintained road network links the city with other major cities and towns of Rajasthan as well as neighboring states.
» By Local Transport - Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation(RSRTC) provides buses to all parts of the state. Also taxis and auto rickshaws are available as local transport.
