Guwahati is situated on the banks of the river Brahmaputra, the name Guwahati is derived from 2 words Guwa mean areca and Hut means the market. It is the capital of Assam. This place was once known by the name "Pragiyotishpura" or even called Light of the East. In today’s norms, Guwahati has become the main business hub of the state and providing employment opportunities to thousands.

Guwahati is one of the largest places in the whole of Assam. This is the main service centre in the field of Oil Industry. It is also famous for its tea plantation where tea is even exported to other developed nations. This place has always been the most fascination and enchanting to the travelers of North East. There are even tea auctions held here on a regular basis for which people come from far off places.

There are lots of ancient places here to be seen and even Hindu temples the most visited temples here is Umananda Temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva on the place called as Peacock Islands.

Attractions of Guwahati :
Kamakhya Temple:
This one of the most ancient temples is situated on the top of Nilachal Hills and the place for tantrik worshipping and also shakti culture. Any tourist making a visit to Assam or Guwahati undoubtedly comes here to pray in this temple. This place is ever flooded with devotees around the year. And there is all the more crowd during the Ambubachi Mela. The place is truly a pilgrimage favorite amongst Assamase people and also the people as a tourist.

» Gandhi Mandap:
The Gandhi mandap is atop Sarania Hill and the place is a memorial built in the honour of Shri Mahatma Gandhi.

» Deepor Beel:
This is one of the natural lake you get to see on the western part of the city. This place is frequented by the people who simply love nature and want to spend their time bird watching. This is also the place most visited by ecologists and environmentalists for various research and project work.

» The Artificial Lakes:
There are lots of artifical lakes built in and around the city. There are fresh water tanks or you could say small lakes, these were built during the Ahom era which includes Jorphukhuri, Dighalipukhuri, Nakkatapukhuri and Silpukhuri. During the times of Ahom period, Dighalipukhuri was the main inland port which was used for keeping war ships and  even boats. During the olden times, this place was connected to Brahmaputra through a channel.

» Guwahati Zoo:
Guwahati Zoo is said to be the richest in its own way throughout India. The major attraction of this zoo is one horned rhinoceros. People from far off places come here to specially have a glance on this unique type of animal.

Getting to Guwahati :
» By Air - Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi is the International Airport which is situated at 18-km of the centre, and this place is also well connected through air with New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.

» By Rail - The railway station here is situated exactly at the centre of this amazing town and they have also the services of Bus Stand. There is also the service of direct trains from main metros like Mumbai, Kochi, Chennai, Bangaloreand Thiruvananthapuram etc.

» By Road - The roads are directly connected to all main National Highways and other roads also connect to Guwahati. There are bus services available around the cities of whole of Northeast of India.
